Local knowledge, practical advice

Properties in Ashburton and Timaru face unique environmental challenges, from seasonal temperature fluctuations to humidity and coastal exposure. Our local experience ensures assessments are accurate, practical and tailored to your property’s specific conditions.

Whether you manage a single family home, a rental portfolio or commercial accommodation, we provide actionable guidance that helps you meet regulations efficiently and cost-effectively. Clear communication and detailed reporting mean you can make informed decisions about upgrades or repairs.

A structured, thorough process

Our Healthy Homes Assessments follow a consistent process to ensure nothing is overlooked:

  • Initial Inspection: Comprehensive evaluation of the property’s compliance with healthy homes standards.
  • Reporting: Easy-to-understand documentation highlighting areas that meet standards and those needing attention.
  • Recommendations: Practical guidance on improvements to achieve compliance and enhance occupant comfort.
  • Follow-up Support: Advice on next steps and access to trusted contractors if remediation work is required.

This structured approach ensures clarity, reduces uncertainty and provides a practical roadmap to maintain or improve property standards.

Moisture Barrier Installation

Excess moisture under your home can lead to dampness, mould and long-term structural issues. We install high-quality ground moisture barriers to reduce rising damp, improve air quality and protect your property from avoidable damage.

Extractor Fan Installation & Ventilation Improvements

Kitchens and bathrooms are major sources of moisture. Properly installed extractor fans remove humid air at the source, reducing condensation and preventing mould growth. We ensure your ventilation systems meet Healthy Homes requirements and are fit for purpose.

Heating Solutions (Heat Pumps)

A compliant heating source is essential for tenant comfort and legal compliance. We supply and install efficient heat pumps sized correctly for your space, providing reliable, cost-effective warmth throughout colder months.

Insulation Upgrades & Compliance

Ceiling and underfloor insulation play a critical role in maintaining a warm, dry home. We assess existing insulation and upgrade where needed to meet current standards and improve energy efficiency.

Draught Stopping & General Improvements

Small gaps can have a big impact. We identify and address draughts, airflow issues and minor structural gaps to help maintain consistent indoor temperatures and reduce heat loss.

Frequently asked questions

What is a healthy home?

A healthy home is a property that’s constructed and maintained to support the health of its occupants. To ensure everyone in New Zealand is living in a healthy home, the government has established a set of standards that all rental properties must meet. The main factors considered: heating, insulation, ventilation, draught stopping, and moisture ingress and drainage.

While only rental properties must comply with healthy homes standards, it’s wise for all property owners to ensure their own homes meet the standards too. If not for the health of your household, do it to increase your property’s value and extend its lifespan.

What is a Healthy Homes Assessment?

In New Zealand, a property needs to pass a Healthy Homes Assessment to be deemed an official healthy home. The evaluation itself is a simple property inspection. To get the tick of approval, your property must comply with the current requirements for quality heating, ventilation, insulation, draught stopping, moisture and drainage.

Our Healthy Homes Assessments inspect:

  • Heating
  • Insulation
  • Ventilation
  • Moisture ingress and drainage
  • Draught stopping

How does Oncore®’s Healthy Homes Assessment work?

At Oncore®, we’re proud to provide professional Healthy Homes Assessments across Christchurch. Should your property require any services to meet Healthy Homes standards, our extended network of trades professionals is here to help. We can organise and manage any maintenance, repairs, or installations necessary, making the entire process of achieving compliance completely effortless.

Who needs to comply with the Healthy Homes Standards?

Landlords must comply. Non compliance can lead to fines, usually awarded to tenants via the Tenancy Tribunal.

Why Healthy Home Assessment is important after 1st of July 2025?

Ensure your rental property meets legal standards and keeps tenants safe and warm. From 1st July 2021, all landlords must ensure their rental properties comply with the Healthy Homes Standards within 120 days of any new, varied, or renewed tenancy agreement. Landlords in New Zealand who fail to meet the Healthy Homes Standards can face fines of up to $7,200 for each breach, and these penalties may be awarded by the Tenancy Tribunal.

Which areas of the home do you assess for healthy home compliance?

We inspect and provide recommendations for the whole home including living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, and drainage systems.

One call does it all.
