Project Overview

What started as a small repair job quickly turned into a complete bathroom and toilet makeover.

The homeowners called the Oncore team after their shower started leaking. The leak had damaged the vanity and the wall linings beside it. They wanted the bathroom fixed and updated, but didn’t want the stress of dealing with many different trades. They also wanted to help with the demolition work themselves.

The Oncore New Plymouth team took care of all the planning, trades, and building work, making sure everything was done to a high standard.

Design & Planning

At first, the plan was simple: replace the shower and vanity, fix the damaged walls, and refresh the bathroom.

But after the owners removed the old fittings during demolition, mould was found behind the shower and inside the walls. It meant the job became bigger and turned into a full bathroom renovation.

The layout of the bathroom stayed the same. The shower, vanity, bath, and toilet remained in their places, but everything was replaced with new and modern fittings.

Project Execution

1. Demolition & Preparation

The owners, who had trade experience, removed the shower, vanity, and wall linings. When mould was found, the Oncore team stepped in to dry the area, treat the mould, and remove the bath to check for more damage.

2. Bathroom Renovation

Once the damage was fixed, the team installed a new shower, vanity, bath, mirror, and wall linings. They put in new flooring, plastered the walls, and painted everything to give the bathroom a fresh, clean look.

3. Toilet Renovation

During the bathroom work, the owners decided to update the toilet, too. The team replaced the toilet, laid new flooring, and painted the room so it matched the new bathroom.

4. Trades & Coordination

This project required a diverse range of skilled workers, including builders, plumbers, electricians, plasterers, painters, tilers, vinyl installers, and mould treatment specialists. The Oncore team organised all of them, making sure each step was done in the correct order.

Challenges Overcome

The biggest challenge was that the project kept growing. What was planned as a two-week job became six weeks because of the mould problem, bath removal, and the extra toilet renovation.

The Oncore New Plymouth team solved this by:

  • Communication regularly with the owners about what was happening.
  • Sending updated quotes for extra work so there are no surprises, and getting these approved before moving forward with any work.
  • Adjusting the timeline to accommodate the extra jobs without compromising quality.

Because of this, the owners stayed informed and confident in the process.

Client Experience

The owners liked being part of the demolition but were happy to leave the rest to the Oncore New Plymouth team. They preferred having a single point of contact instead of managing multiple trades independently.

By managing the whole job, from ordering materials to scheduling trades, the Oncore team made the renovation smooth and stress-free for the owners.

Final Result

The new bathroom is bright, modern, and easy to use. Everything is fresh, from the fittings to the floors and walls. The updated toilet matches perfectly, making both rooms look like they belong together.

The space is now not only free from water damage but also more stylish and comfortable for daily use.

Final Thoughts

This project illustrates how a minor repair can escalate into a much larger job once hidden problems are discovered. With clear communication, careful planning, and skilled tradespeople, the Oncore team delivered a result that the owners can enjoy for years.

If you need help with home repairs or renovations, the Oncore team can handle everything, so you can relax while we create the home you want.
